Install an unsupported printer under Windows

I have an old printer that I would like to use under Windows, but the operating system doesn't have a driver for it, and I don't have the driver disk? Is there a solution?

Most printers are able to emulate an old but common type of printer, such as the HP DeskJet or the IBM ProPrinter. They do this to enable them to be used with non-Windows software without the manufacturer having to provide a driver for it. You may need to set a DIP switch inside the printer, or change a setting from the menu, in order to invoke this emulation. Consult the printer manual to find out which printer models it emulates and whether any configuration changes are needed.

Having done this, run the Add New Hardware Wizard from Control Panel and install the driver for the emulated printer. You can then use your old printer under Windows. Some of the special features of the printer, such as built-in fonts, may not be available when using the emulation, but it's better than nothing.
